They may be bald...

Whoever said being bald isn't beautiful?One of my favorite traditions is to go eagle watching with my dad. We're so lucky to have these guys migrating through Coeur d'Alene every year. They arrive around (or a little after) Thanksgiving and stay through about the middle of January. We were supposed to have record amounts this year, and I'm pretty sure we did.

Each year my dad, my mom, my husband and I load up our cameras and binoculars and go searching for Bald Eagles. This is the best way to experience them, with the ones you love having a mini-adventure. But, there are other ways to see them too.

The Coeur d'Alene Resort does cruises that take you out to see the eagles. This is a great option for kids because raptor (the bird kind) experts come along and teach cruisers all about the birds along the way. It's also a little warmer and there's refreshments and restrooms.The BLM is also helpful. A resident eagle expert will meet in Beauty Bay at certain times to help visitors spot the birds, and give a little education as well. The BLM also posts info. about the current counts, viewing and safety tips, and general information about the birds.Happy eagle watching!
