Float On

Float the Coeur d'Alene River before summer's gone for good

It's August. Which in North Idaho translates to: It's time to cram in everything you haven't gotten to do yet before fall gets here and it's suddenly too cold to be outside not in a parka. One thing that should definitely be on your list is to float the North Fork of the Cd'A River. Not only is it beautiful and a great way to see some wildlife, it's completely relaxing and great way to do nothing at all but sit and take in everything around you.Sounds great, right? I know, it is.That's why a few weeks ago, after I challenged you all to slow down and really appreciate all that is summer, Kyle and I decided to drive up to the Bumblebee launching point and spend an evening floating. cdariver3I was a little bummed that the sun had already gone behind the hills, but it was so peaceful and I've seen some pretty gnarly sunburns from floaters in the past. So at least there was that.I'm a little embarrassed to say that this was my first time floating the river. But I can safely say I will be doing it again soon. The water was crystal clear and not as cold as I would have expected. Although I didn't want to go in due to the lack of sunshine. The shade was a bit chilly.cdariver1cdariver2How to get there (it takes about an hour):

  • Take I-90 E toward Kellogg
  • Take exit 43 toward Kingston
  • Turn left on Coeur d'Alene River Rd.
  • Turn Left on Little North Fork and head up to bumblebee bridge
