It's Art on the Green Weekend!
Figures... my favorite weekend of the summer is finally here and it's raining for the first time in weeks. But I won't let that get me down! There are three great events that all kind of connect to create a food and art mecca downtown and they're all happening this weekend. Who has two thumbs and is super stoked? This girl.Art on the Green is at NIC and hosts more local fine art and craftsmen than any other event in the area. Live performances, fun snacks and a plethora of art and culture fill the air with creativity and positive energy. There's no better time to look for inspiration than when you're surrounded by the best artists in the area.Over 30 performances of music, dance and entertainment will show on two stages during the three days of Art on the Green. Enjoy live performances including jazz, pop, country, world music, and much more. Performers include Camille Bloom, Kris Orlowski (featured on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy), Gypsy Soul, Impossible Bird (an amazing combination of fiddle, guitar and voice), as well as Tuxedo Junction, Milonga, Scott Kirby, Scott Cossu, San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers, and more. You’ll also see talented young children showcase their ArtShop summer art class work on the North Stage, and community youth share their love of poetry at a poetry reading on the South Stage. There's also a spot for the kiddos to make their own creations and bring them home. So fun!The Downtown Street Fair and the "Taste of the Coeur d'Alenes" (weird name, I know) happen over the same weekend. Full of yummy but terrible-for-you food and fun craft vendors, these events are also a must-attend if you haven't before. The Berry Kabob stand is always down there, so that's reason enough for me to go. Yum!The only downside to all three events is that the vendors are mostly the same each year. The upside is that you know what to expect and if there's something you really want this year but don't want to spend the money, you can save up for it next year. Genius right? If you don't want to walk to all three events, there are shuttles that can take you to and from the street fair and NIC for free. I've found it's easiest to just walk along the dike road if you can, no lines that way.I know I'll be down there at least one day this weekend. For a full schedule, check out the links above. Hope to see you all there!Andy
