A quick trip to Riley Creek

This weekend we made a quick, one-night  trip up to Riley Creek Recreational Area to meet up with my family and do a little camping.  The campground was beautiful, and obviously a very popular place to go. The sites were roomy and just a short walk away from the river and boat launch. There's a large, grassy field (great for frisbee or fetch) and a sand volleyball court. So nice!20130730-091800.jpg20130730-091815.jpgOn Sunday morning Kyle and I took the boys on a nature hike led by one of the park rangers. She was very knowledgeable about the forest and local wildlife. We learned about the different species of fish that live in the lake and river and about some of the native plants like horsetail, thimbleberries, queen's lily, and lots more.20130730-091821.jpg20130730-091830.jpg20130531-153216.jpgJuneau was able to come along with us on our nature walk. There were a couple other dogs in the group too. This park was incredibly dog-friendly. So nice!20130730-091837.jpgAfter our hike and everyone cleaned up camp, we were able to spend about an hour or so out on my sister's boat. It was so relaxing and the water wasn't as cold as I thought it would be. The boys (including Kyle and Chris) thought it was really warm. Guess I'm a bit of a wuss. The river was wide and fairly shallow. The best part was that there was hardly anyone else out on the water. This would be a great place to practice wakeboarding, surfing or paddleboarding.20130730-091845.jpgOverall, I'd say it was a great trip, only wish it lasted longer!Hope you all had a great weekend too! I'll have a schedule up soon for Art on the Green and the street fair. So excited!
