The holidays are here. As usual, I am way behind on everything Christmas – shopping, schedules and especially holiday cards. I didn’t even have any holiday card photo ideas this year. I was going to save a few bucks this year and skip sending out cards, but then Kyle surprised me by saying, “It’s the one time a year we actually reach out to family and friends we don’t talk to on a regular basis.”
He’s right, it’s important to connect with loved ones this time of year. He’s not typically full of Christmas spirit – Halloween is more his speed – so the fact that this was important to him struck a chord and suddenly here I am caring about holiday cards again.
Last Sunday I had the honor of photographing some good friends for their own holiday cards. I set my alarm for 7 a.m. (far too early for a Sunday) and headed out into the heavy fog. Holiday cheer isn’t coming as easy to me this year as in the past. So, naturally, I blasted the Michael Buble Christmas album the entire way to their home in Post Falls. Nothing gets you in the mood like a little Michael Buble… for Christmas, that is (you dirty birds).
I’m not super familiar with Post Falls so I asked a friend and photographer, Jennifer Haas (who does amazing work BTW), for a recommendation. She suggested Black Bay and it was absolutely perfect for this fun, adventurous couple and their adorable lab, Sadie.
It was chilly and foggy, dew clinging to every branch, rock and bench. But with a lack of snow it helped to create a more wintery atmosphere.
You may remember Kristin and Blake from some of my other posts (like here, here and here). They are one of my favorite couples to photograph because they’re willing to try just about anything and it’s easy to pull out their fun-loving spirit. I hope that shows in their photos.
Are you on your holiday A-game this year, or are you as behind as I am? There’s still time to turn your Christmas card idea into a New Year’s card – hit me up if you need some photos at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Good luck with all your holiday prep,
