Bike the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park | Stuck in North Idaho

Biking Going to the Sun Road | Glacier National Park

This summer has been spent on two wheels, a change of pace in comparison to past summers spent hiking and car camping. Earlier this summer, Kyle and a couple friends convinced me to bite the bullet and buy my first road bike. To make sure I actually used said bike, I signed up for the Coeur d’Alene Bike Co.’s Coeur d’Fondo training group. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday this summer, we’ve been meeting at the shop to go on group…

Leavenworth Oktoberfest

A Different Oktoberfest

Every year I give you all a run-down of the various Oktoberfest celebrations throughout North Idaho. I've listed several beer tasting events by town, did a three-part series about the Leavenworth Oktoberfest and last year highlighted Critfest and the Coeur d'Fondo - two biking events hosted right here in Coeur d'Alene. I think it's more than appropriate that this particular Monday - you know, the one following Oktoberfest - is National Coffee Day. It was much needed after the exhausting-ness that was my weekend. Shall we take a walk down Memory Lane? Actually, let's not. My feet still hurt. Crit Fest was amazing! It was high-intensity, the weather was great and it opened our eyes to something completely different. I tried to get some good pics for you, but it was…

What is a Criterium?

As mentioned in last Friday's post, Coeur d'Alene is hosting its first criterium this Friday as part of the big Oktoberfest celebration. To be honest, this is the first time I'd heard of such a thing, so I reached out to Jenni Gaertner, with Vertical Earth, to learn more about this unique event they're calling Crit Fest. A criterium is a timed, closed-circuit road race. This particular crit (as the cool kids call it) will feature four races divided into USAC categories.…
