Hi, we’re Andrea and Kyle Nagel and together we run Stuck in North Idaho. We started dating as high school juniors way back in 2005 and have been on a lifelong adventure ever since. Stuck in North Idaho about more than just life in the Idaho panhandle. It’s about us, our dog Juneau, and everything we love to see, eat and do in the beautiful Northwest.

Whether it’s paddling around the lake, hiking in the woods, hitting the slopes, or camping along the river, we love sharing our favorite places with locals and visitors alike.

Andrea started Stuck in North Idaho in 2012 in response to complaints of boredom and a lack of appreciation for the area from younger residents. Since then, we’ve backpacked, mountain biked, ran, traveled, hiked, rafted, snowshoed, and triathaloned (is that a word?) our way across the Inland Northwest and beyond.

Meet Andrea

Hi, I’m Andrea, the creator of Stuck in North Idaho and an overly enthusiastic dog lover. Beyond that, I’m a writer and content marketing specialist with a newfound love of photography and appreciation for the outdoors. With every new friend I’ve made in the past few years, I’ve learned a new skill or tried a new activity that deepens my respect for those that know about and appreciate our region most. I’m a novice of most things, but I’m more than happy to share what I learn along the way in hopes that it helps someone else trying something new for the first time. My only hope with this blog is that it inspires more people to learn about all the amazing opportunities that lie beyond our homes and electronics and take at least one step into the wild. Afterall, it’s difficult to appreciate something you never allow yourself to see. (Learn a little bit more about me here)

Quick Facts:

Birth Sign: Scorpio

Introvert or extrovert? Definitely introvert. Small talk and large groups of people are my nemesis.

Favorite Book: I love most books! The Call of the Wild was one of my favorites growing up, but Harry Potter holds a special place in my heart, as does Marley and Me, and I was really inspired by Wild… I can never seem to pick just one.

Favorite Movie: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels or the Producers

Go-to snack: Popcorn or apples and peanut butter

Favorite thing to do on the weekend: This may be no surprise, but I love taking Juneau hiking. I don’t care if it’s somewhere new or somewhere we’ve been 1,000 times – it’s my  happy place. I also really love comedy – film or stand-up (Mike Birbiglia is my current favorite).

Meet Kyle

I’m Kyle, financial risk analyst by trade and risk taker by practice. I enjoy the feeling of blood pumping through my veins by almost any means necessary. I feel most at home on a bike whether I’m pounding out a 100+ mile fondo around Coeur d’Alene Lake or earning my turns on any of our various trail systems. Like Andrea, I somehow surround myself with people who appreciate the beautiful northwest for the outdoor playground that it is. I believe that a strenuous lifestyle is the key to happiness and the best way to squeeze every drop of enjoyment out of life, and if I can convince a single person by sharing my experiences, this blog will have served its purpose.

Quick Facts:

Birth Sign: Gemini

Introvert or extrovert? Depends on the situation, I can be quite extroverted if need be.

Favorite Book: I’m a sucker for the classics; The Great Gatsby, Flowers For Algernon, and Bartleby the Scrivener for a short story

Favorite Movie: Casablanca is my go to, but Catch Me If You Can is captivating

Go-to snack: Poor man’s Reese’s (if you have to ask, you wouldn’t get it)

Favorite thing to do on the weekend: I think we’ve covered that. Bike on the road, bike on the mountain, bike to the bar.

Meet Juneau

Hi I’m Juneau, a Bernese Mountain Dog born in Mead, WA. I love any outdoor activity where I  can be off leash, protecting the house from the squirrel invasion (it will happen someday) and rolling around in snow. When mom and dad aren’t looking (and sometimes when they are) I love napping on the couch. My smaller (but slightly older) sister is Zooey, a tiny black panther that definitely runs the show.

Quick Facts:

Birth Sign: Capricorn

Introvert or extrovert? Introvert if someone’s entering the house, extrovert if there are pets or treats involved

Favorite Book: How to Tell if Your Cat is Plotting to Kill You

Favorite Movie: I sleep through most movies, but am often intrigued with the animals in Planet Earth

Go-to snack: Peanut butter in my Kong or sweet potato and pumpkin treats from the GoodDog store

Favorite thing to do on the weekend: Go hiking or mountain biking with mom and dad
